More Details

The best way to translate a Final Cut sequence to an Avid editing system.

  • All tracks exported at once
  • Dissolves
  • Motion Effects / Speed Changes (constant, not variable)
  • Freeze Frames
  • Master clip Log Notes to Comments
  • Nested Sequences (limitations apply see user guide)
  • Subclips
  • Audio clip gain
  • Audio "automation gain" (FCP audio keyframes become Avid audio keyframes)

What Avid systems are "Supported"?

  • 30i and 25i projects in Meridien-based Avid systems: Symphony, Media Composer (including Adrenaline), Xpress, Xpress Pro and Xpress DV
  • DS is not officially supported, but lots of users take sequences into DS, sometimes using a Media Composer as an intermediate step. Click here for an online tutorial from a DS user.
  • ABVB-based systems are not supported.
  • 24fps is not supported because we do not convert timecodes (necessary for most Avids since they don't digitize at 24fps).
  • We are told that 24fps conform on Symphony Nitris (which can capture at 24fps) "works great".

Final Cut 5.0 "multi-clips" are not supported.

This isn't "Total Conform", the integration can't be nearly what Xpress Pro has with Symphony, but that's not the point. EDLs have been a major problem for people for a long time, we've solved that. You can now effectively finish on Avid systems the sequences you cut in Final Cut Pro.

The most powerful OMF export available for Final Cut Pro 4.5-5.1.

  • All audio tracks exported at once
  • Audio media embedding into OMF
  • Audio resampling to 32000 KHz, 44100 KHz, 48000 KHz or 96000 KHz for maximum export flexibility
  • Speed Changes (constant, not variable)
  • Bit rate options of 16-bit or 24-bit
  • User definable handles for export
  • Audio crossfades
  • Audio keyframes become gain automation in OMF
  • Clip-based audio levels maintained (not all DAWs convert clip-based gain)
  • Pan information translated into OMF
  • 24fps sequences are supported for exports to DAWs like Pro Tools.

Automatic Duck has tested with Pro Tools 6.4 and later (DigiTranslator 2.0 required to import OMF into Pro Tools), Nuendo 3.1 and Digital Performer 4.6, however Nuendo and DP have limitations in what they read from our OMFs. We've heard import into DP 5.0 fails, so don't try with DP 5.0. Pro Tools is our primary test platform and is our focus, "mileage may vary" in other DAWs.

Final Cut Pro 6.0, part of Final Cut Studio 2.0 has added the ability to export audio levels to the OMF export built-in to Final Cut.

We have tested with Apple's Logic Pro, unfortunately it was not able to import our OMF files.

Final Cut 5.0 "multi-clips" are not supported.

The way to translate a Final Cut sequence to a Quantel eQ or iQ 3.5 system.

  • Layers (each layer is conformed separately into the library)
  • Dissolves
  • SMPTE Wipes
  • Freeze Frames
  • Motion Effects / Speed Changes (constant, not variable)
  • References to external file media
  • Effect description in Conform view
  • Audio fades

Along with Quantel's newest systems, Pro Export FCP is one of the first adopters of the AAF 1.1 Edit Protocol. As more manufactures ship Edit Protocol compliant software, Pro Export FCP should be able to work with these products as well.

Final Cut 5.0 "multi-clips" are not supported.

System Requirements

Not compatible with FCP 5.0 on INTEL, use FCP 5.1 or 6.0 with Intel-based Macs
